The conference hotel is the Comfort Suites at Kennesaw State (3366 Busbee Dr. NW, Kennesaw, GA, 30144). Reservations are due by February 28 to qualify for the group rate of $89/night; this applies to either a single suite or a double suite, each of which also has a pull-out couch. For the group rate, please call 678-275-2090 and specify “MTSE” as the name of our block. Many thanks to SCSMT president Jeffrey Yunek for his service as local arrangements chair and also as a member of the program committee. Thanks also to other program committee members Sean Clarke, Jane Clendinning, Brian Jarvis, James MacKay, and MTSE president Gabriel Fankhauser.

As is noted on the program, we will again schedule a recital featuring performances by conference attendees at the end of the paper sessions on Friday afternoon, April 1. If you are interested in performing and you haven’t already been in touch with me about this, please reply to this message to let me know. There is no need to select repertoire quite yet, but it would be helpful to have a sense of how many people want to be involved.

On Saturday morning, April 2, Jocelyn Neal (UNC Chapel Hill) will be offering a graduate student workshop entitled “Form Matters: Contemporary Popular Music, Genre, and Trends in Songwriting and Arranging.” Quite a few students have already applied and been accepted to this workshop, but it may be possible to accommodate a few more. Students can apply by contacting me by e-mail and by arranging for a faculty member to send me a brief confirmation of their student status.

Looking forward to what promises to be an exciting conference!

Sincerely,
